Red Rocks South Residence

Set amidst sandstone rock formations, the existing pueblo revival-style home was in dire need of renovation and updating, yet the bones of the house were perfectly situated for the homeowner’s needs. A conversation between light and nature became the design focus. While the small, compartmentalized interior spaces suffered from a major lack of daylight, the home has wonderful views to the mountains and plenty of opportunity for light infiltration. We created new openings on the home’s exterior and light now fills every room. A palette of natural white oak and white ties all of the home’s interiors together, while allowing the homeowner’s ecletic taste to flourish. We transformed the home exterior from two-dimensional to one of texture and depth by applying Shou Sugi Ban siding to the envelope, pine soffits and new windows on the perimeter. A new 2nd level balcony creates a covered dining area and converses with the existing poolhouse and shipping container pool. Extraordinary architectural detailing of the kitchen and master vanity millwork, by Jeff Faine design, takes the interiors to an elevated level and showcases the quality and care of this home’s built environment by Character Builders Colorado.
